JOB DESCRIPTION
Orange Tree Staffing is seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to “Build and Inspire Growth” by providing education-based services to students at Seagull Academy. As a TVI, you will foster an inclusive learning environment, adapting curriculum materials, and employing various instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students. The TVI collaborates with other educators, support staff, and parents to ensure the academic and social success of visually impaired students.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide direct instruction and support for students with visual impairments, ensuring access to the general education curriculum.
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ educational needs, develop Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s), and establish appropriate goals and objectives.
- Design and implement specialized instructional strategies, adaptations, and modifications to meet the unique learning needs of visually impaired students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and parents to develop and implement effective instructional plans and accommodations.
- Teach Braille reading and writing skills, orientation and mobility skills, and assistive technology use to enhance students’ independence and overall educational experience
- Utilize appropriate assessment tools and assistive technology to evaluate student’s progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide consultation and training to classroom teachers and other school personnel on strategies for supporting visually impaired students in the inclusive classroom.
- Attend and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, providing input and recommendations for students’ educational plans.
REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or related field
- Valid Teaching Certificate from a US State or Territory with certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferably in an educational setting
- Knowledge of braille, including the ability to teach braille reading and writing
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment used by visually impaired students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other team members
