RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct 1:1 nursing care to an assigned student, including monitoring health status, administering medications, and managing chronic or complex medical conditions.
- Accompany and support the student throughout the school day, ensuring safety and access to classroom instruction, therapies, and extracurricular activities.
- Implement and monitor the student’s Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP) and Emergency Care Plan (ECP), adapting support as directed by physician orders and district policies.
- Respond promptly to health concerns, medical emergencies, or changes in the student’s condition, providing appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, parents, healthcare providers, and school staff to coordinate care and support the student’s participation in educational activities.
- Document daily health observations, treatments, and interventions accurately, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with school and state regulations.
- Educate and guide school staff on the student’s health needs, emergency procedures, and appropriate accommodations when necessary.
- Ensure all medical equipment, supplies, and medications needed for the student’s care are maintained and readily available.
- Promote the student’s independence and self-care skills when appropriate, fostering confidence and participation in school routines.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in pediatric nursing and school-based healthcare.
