JOB DESCRIPTION
Orange Tree Staffing is seeking Sign Language Interpreter to “Build and Inspire Growth” by providing education-based services to students at Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who are hearing. You will interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa in various settings, ensuring effective and accurate communication.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Educational Interpreter I – Minimum score of Level 3.3 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) or a passing score on a state level interpreting evaluation and a minimum of an AA degree. An EIPA score of a 3.5 will be required after within 3 years of employment.
- Educational Interpreter II – Minimum of AA degree in Educational Interpreting or a related field from an accredited program, a minimum of 3 years experience in an education setting and a score of Level 3.5 on the EIPA.
- Educational Interpreter III- Minimum EIPA score of a 4.0 or a national certification. 5 years experience in education is required with a minimum of a AA degree in interpreting or a related field.

REQUIREMENTS

- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant sign language(s).
- Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter (e.g., RID certification).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Flexibility to work in various settings and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Previous experience as a sign language interpreter in a school based setting preferred
